Air New Zealand successfully tested the electric ALIA CX300 aircraft in 12 New Zealand airports, proving its viability for future sustainable air travel.
Air New Zealand and BETA Technologies completed a four-month test program for the battery-electric ALIA CX300 aircraft, flying it over 100 times across 12 New Zealand airports, including challenging Cook Strait crossings.
The flights, conducted from October 2025 to February 2026, tested real-world operations, pilot training, energy use, and airport integration, including New Zealand’s first low-emissions instrument flight rules operation.
The aircraft carried over 20 tonnes of mock cargo and demonstrated significant cost savings versus conventional planes.
Over 700 people experienced the aircraft, helping shift public dialogue toward practical electric aviation.
The data will inform future fleet and network planning, with the ALIA CX300 returning to BETA for further development.
