A 74-year-old woman lost $3M in her super fund after her accountant, banned by ASIC, allegedly mismanaged funds for over 20 clients.
Karen Hedberg, a 74-year-old retired veterinarian, says she lost access to an estimated $3 million in her self-managed super fund (SMSF) after transferring it to accountant Christopher Edwards, who is accused of misleading over 20 clients into investing or lending money, promising up to 10% quarterly returns.
Clients allege Edwards, banned by ASIC in September 2025 from giving financial advice without a licence, mismanaged or diverted nearly $25 million across more than 100 accounts, with repayments overdue and withdrawals denied.
Many report financial hardship, mental distress, and lack of transparency, while complaints have been filed with NSW Police, ASIC, and other regulators.
Edwards denies wrongdoing, stating courts will decide his obligations.
The case underscores risks in the loosely regulated $1 trillion SMSF sector.
