Lyn Lacey, a 77-year-old carer from Banbury, was honored at a royal reception at Windsor Castle on February 11, 2026, for her 27 years of service as a Shared Lives carer.
The event recognized her dedication to supporting individuals with learning disabilities, dementia, mental health needs, and other challenges through long- and short-term placements in her home.
A qualified nurse, former care home manager, midwife, and magistrate, Lacey has treated her supported individuals as family, helping them achieve personal goals and travel internationally.
She received a Highly Commended award at the Shared Lives Plus Awards in November 2025.
Accompanied by her son Adam, also a carer, and her social worker, Lacey’s recognition highlights Oxfordshire County Council’s push to expand community-based care.
