U.S. forces intercepted and boarded the Panama-flagged oil tanker Veronica III in the Indian Ocean on February 14, 2026, after tracking it from the Caribbean.
The vessel, linked to Venezuela, Iran, and Russia, was carrying nearly 2 million barrels of crude and fuel oil and had departed Venezuela on January 3, the same day former President Nicolás Maduro was captured.
The operation, part of President Trump’s quarantine order targeting sanctioned oil shipments, was conducted without incident and marked the second such boarding in the region within a week.
The tanker, whose registration was canceled in December 2024, is part of a shadow fleet used to evade U.S. sanctions.
The Pentagon did not confirm whether the vessel was seized or its final disposition.
