Two individuals, a 28-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, have been arrested in Birkdale, Auckland, after allegedly stealing $42,000 in goods from stores across Auckland and the Bay of Plenty.
The suspects, who had evaded police since September, were taken into custody without injury following a search at a residence.
The woman faces 17 shoplifting charges and has been remanded; the man, remanded on 27 charges including theft, burglary, and possession of a weapon, is due in court on March 9.
Police credit a swift response and collaboration with retail staff, calling the arrests a major step in combating repeat retail crime.
