Students at Jawaharlal Nehru University protested on February 15, 2026, demanding the reversal of disciplinary actions against JNUSU leaders, including President Aditi Mishra and Vice President Gopika K Babu, who were rusticated for two semesters over alleged property damage during a protest. Four other office-bearers, including General Secretary Sunil Yadav and former president Nitish Kumar, faced similar sanctions for damaging facial recognition technology at the central library, estimated to cost Rs. 20 lakh. Nitish Kumar was also fined Rs. 20,000. The students were barred from campus and accused the university of suppressing dissent ahead of planned demonstrations against the suspension of the UGC Promotion of Equity Regulations, 2026.
