Seven West Bengal election officers suspended for misconduct during voter list update.
The Election Commission has suspended seven West Bengal assistant electoral registration officers with immediate effect over allegations of misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of powers during the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
The officials, state employees on deputation to the EC, are accused of approving registrations with incomplete documentation, flawed voter mapping, and other violations.
The EC invoked its authority under Section 13CC of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and directed the state’s Chief Secretary to initiate disciplinary proceedings and report back.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions between the EC and the Trinamool Congress-led state government over the SIR process, which aimed to update voter rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
