flag A 2026 relaunch of New Zealand’s Ohi Data Navigator shows a rise in youth disadvantage, with 25,000 more young people facing multiple risks.

The Ohi Data Navigator has been relaunched in February 2026, offering Aotearoa New Zealand communities access to long-term data on 869,000 youth aged 12 to 24 using information from 2018 to 2024. The tool reveals a two-percentage-point rise in youth experiencing disadvantage, with about 25,000 more young people facing multiple risks in education, employment, justice, or care. Nationally, one in five youth face exclusion, rising to over one in three in some rural or non-urban areas. Developed by Ohi Impact Tapui and supported by Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation, the relaunched Navigator includes custom reports and storytelling services to help communities use data ethically and effectively to strengthen protective factors like whānau connection and education.
