Protesters oppose Ontario’s plan to centralize conservation authorities, fearing reduced local oversight and increased environmental risks.
On February 14, 2026, members of 350 Kingston protested the Ontario government’s plan to consolidate 36 conservation authorities into seven under Bill 68, arguing that centralizing control from Toronto would weaken local environmental oversight, reduce responsiveness to flood and water risks, and eliminate greenhouse gas reporting.
The group, including activists and former city councillor Vicky Schmolka, warned that the move could prioritize development over conservation, erode community knowledge, and harm public safety.
The protest, the second in a series, urged residents to contact their MPPs amid growing concerns over transparency and environmental protection.
Los manifestantes se oponen al plan de Ontario de centralizar las autoridades de conservación, por temor a la reducción de la supervisión local y al aumento de los riesgos ambientales.
