The NSW government has awarded contracts for two large battery storage projects in the New England region—Armidale East BESS and Ebor BESS—as part of its largest long-duration energy storage tender to date.
The Armidale East project, 158 MW with 1,440 MWh capacity, and the Ebor project, 100 MW with 870 MWh, are part of six statewide projects designed to provide over eight hours of storage and support 24/7 renewable power.
Both must secure planning approvals and be completed by 2030.
The initiative, managed by ASL, aims to stabilize electricity prices and advance NSW’s renewable energy goals, with the state now leading Australia in battery projects, totaling over 200 in construction or planning.
