Karen Kerr, 58, regained independence after defying doctors' predictions of permanent disability from undiagnosed iron-overload disease.
Karen Kerr, 58, of Dorset, defied medical predictions by regaining independence after being told she would never walk again due to brain damage from undiagnosed haemochromatosis, a genetic iron-overload condition.
After a severe decline in January 2023, she spent four months in hospital with near-total dependence on care.
In May 2024, her son, physiotherapist Iain Legge, and his partner Dionne Harvey began intensive rehabilitation at their Scotland clinic using neuroplasticity training and iron management.
Through consistent therapy, Kerr progressed from a Zimmer frame to a walking stick and eventually walked unaided.
She now lives independently, drives, shops, and plans to wear high heels and resume horse riding, crediting her recovery to determination, family support, and belief in progress.
