India needs to build most new housing by 2050 to meet urban growth, with reforms urged for transparency and efficiency.
India’s urban population is projected to grow from 50 crore to nearly 80 crore by 2050, requiring over half of the needed housing to be built, according to Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Speaking at the National Urban & Real Estate Development Conclave, he called for AI and digital integration to modernize real estate regulation, urging machine-readable data, real-time monitoring, and interoperable RERA systems across states.
He emphasized integrated urban planning, efficient land use, long-term financing, and transparent project data to help homebuyers assess risks.
The changes are key to achieving India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
