On his 18th birthday, Melbourne teen Rohan Martin Ritchie ran 100km in hot, humid conditions to raise over $14,000 for youth mental health charity headspace Box Hill.
Completing 33 laps of a 3km loop near Gardiner’s Creek, he started at 4 a.m. and finished just before 1pm, averaging 5:23 per kilometre.
Supported by family and friends, including parents who sang to him during a low point, Ritchie never considered quitting despite physical strain.
The run, part of eight months of heat training, aimed to reduce stigma around mental health and support expanded outreach to schools and youth groups.
