A federal judge ordered the release of a Filipino man detained at Tacoma ICE due to unconstitutional medical neglect, which caused severe health deterioration.
Greggy Sorio, a 37-year-old Filipino man detained at the Tacoma ICE Processing Center, was released after a federal judge ruled his detention unconstitutional due to severe medical neglect.
U.S. District Judge Tana Lin found that delays and denials of care caused irreversible harm, including the amputation of a toe and part of his foot, along with ulcerative colitis, anemia, and extreme weight loss.
Sorio, who entered the U.S. on a green card in 2007 and was arrested in 2025 after serving a prison sentence in Alaska, had his pleas for medical help ignored for hours and faced a month-long delay in specialist referrals.
Though released, he still faces a deportation order.
His partner and two children are U.S. citizens.
Advocacy groups celebrated the ruling as a victory, while ICE did not comment.
