The EU-backed €34M loan funds three solar parks in Romania, powering 160,000 homes by 2027.
The European Investment Bank is providing a €34 million loan to build three solar parks in Romania’s Olt and Dolj counties, with a combined capacity of 190 megawatts.
Construction began in February 2026, and full operation is expected by September 2027.
The project, led by Romanian companies owned by Norwegian firm Scatec ASA, will power over 160,000 homes and is part of a €121 million financing package including the EBRD and Romanian lender BCR.
Two of the three plants have secured long-term Contracts for Difference, ensuring revenue stability for nearly 15 years.
The initiative supports Romania’s goal of 38% renewable energy use by 2030 and the EU’s target of at least 42.5%.
