Chinese automakers like BYD, GWM, Chery, and MG have gained significant traction in Australia, with BYD ranking sixth in January sales and China surpassing Thailand as the country’s second-largest vehicle exporter. Denza, BYD’s premium brand, has sold nearly 2,000 units of its B5 and B8 models, with projections of up to 10,000 sales in 2026. Mark Harland, COO of Denza and former Holden marketing executive, said Holden’s leadership dismissed Chinese vehicles despite global trends, missing a key opportunity as Chinese EVs now dominate the market.
