Chelmsford council seeks approval for eight permanent modular homes to house homeless individuals, part of a £15M initiative.
Chelmsford City Council has received a planning application for eight SoloHaus modular homes on land north of Dukes Lane in Chelmer Village.
The project, part of The Hill Group’s £15 million Foundation 200 initiative, aims to provide long-term, stable housing for individuals the council is legally required to house, particularly single people experiencing homelessness.
The homes, designed for use over months or years, will be gifted to Chelmer Housing Partnership and managed in partnership with the council.
The initiative addresses a persistent gap in affordable, supported housing, where over 100 single homeless people annually are placed in temporary accommodations far from support networks.
The planning application is open for public consultation, ending on 3 March 2026.
