The body of 37-year-old Chandan Kumar, a Bengaluru software engineer, arrived in India on February 15, 2026, after being fatally shot in a targeted attack at a Toronto shopping center on February 7.
Canadian authorities are investigating the incident, which occurred in the parking lot of the Woodbine Shopping Centre in Rexdale.
Kumar, who lived in Canada for six years and worked for LTI Mindtree, was actively involved in promoting Kannada culture in Toronto.
His parents, who received his remains on Maha Shivaratri, expressed grief and pride, saying he had delayed returning to India and had never shared his struggles.
His body was taken to his hometown of Tyamagondlu, where public viewing and final rites were held on February 16.
