Anthony Chicco, paralyzed by an electric shock at 19, opens his first art exhibition in 2026 after a decade of recovery.
In 2014, 19-year-old Anthony Chicco, a learning support assistant at Gowrie Primary School in Canberra, suffered a severe electric shock from a frayed cable while attaching a classroom door to a bollard, causing paralysis, speech loss, and long-term health issues including seizures, brain injury, and chronic pain.
After surviving the incident, he endured over a decade of recovery, relocating across Australia for treatment and turning to art as therapy.
A graduate of the Canberra Institute of Technology, he is set to open a solo exhibition at The Q Gallery in Ainslie on March 27, marking a major milestone in his healing journey.
Now living in Bonython with his wife and children, he homeschools and embraces a renewed sense of hope.
