A 62-year-old man with a violent past shot at Seattle cops in Ballard on Feb. 12, injuring one officer and critically wounding himself.
Christopher Michael Bowman, a 62-year-old man with a decades-long history of violent crimes, is facing first- and second-degree assault charges after allegedly shooting at Seattle police officers in the Ballard neighborhood on February 12, 2026.
Police encountered him near Northwest 62nd Street and 28th Ave Northwest after a 911 call from a woman who reported he was following her and carrying a pistol.
When approached and ordered to show his hands, Bowman drew a firearm and opened fire, injuring one officer with shrapnel.
Officers returned fire, critically injuring Bowman, who remains hospitalized.
Prosecutors say he had an active warrant for rape and other violent offenses in Kansas and a criminal record dating back to the 1990s, including convictions for rape, robbery, kidnapping, and firearm possession in Kansas and Missouri.
