Seven-time NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson to retire after 2027 Daytona 500, his final full-time race.
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has announced he will retire from full-time racing after the 2027 Daytona 500, marking the end of his storied career.
The 50-year-old, who last competed full-time in 2020, will drive for Legacy Motor Club, the team he co-owns, in his final Cup Series start.
Johnson, a 2024 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, cited the Daytona 500’s prestige and competitive potential as reasons for choosing the race as his farewell.
He plans to focus on building his team and has not ruled out future racing in other series or events, including endurance races and record attempts.
