Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched 25 new electric buses for Chandigarh on February 14, 2026, under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, part of a national push for green public transit.
The buses, part of a larger plan to deploy 428 electric buses in the Tricity region, operate under a hiring model where private operators manage procurement and maintenance.
With the new addition, Chandigarh now has 105 electric buses, with 75 more expected by April–May 2026, bringing the total to 180.
The 12-meter, low-floor, air-conditioned buses offer a 224 km range, wheelchair space, ramps, and advanced safety features including GPS, CCTV, panic buttons, and people-counting systems.
The city aims to fully electrify its fleet by the end of 2027–28.
