Juliette Binoche says Cannes films' Oscar success stems from artistry, not diversity policies.
French actress Juliette Binoche, who chaired the 2025 Cannes Film Festival jury, attributes the strong Oscar showings of this year’s Cannes selections to the films’ artistic strength and originality, not Academy diversity changes.
She noted that Cannes winners earned 19 Oscar nominations, including best picture nods for "Sentimental Value" and "The Secret Agent," while Palme d’Or winner "It Was Just An Accident" and special jury prize winner "Sirat" are in the best international film race.
Binoche highlighted the emotional depth and unconventional storytelling of these films, citing Jafar Panahi’s prison-written work as a powerful example.
She also discussed her directorial debut, "In-I in Motion," a documentary about her dance collaboration with Akram Khan, which deepened her understanding of intuition and creative courage.
Juliette Binoche dice que el éxito de las películas de Cannes en el Oscar proviene del arte, no de políticas de diversidad.
