A former Sussex Police officer got an 18-month suspended sentence for possessing and distributing 421 child sexual images.
Phil Joseph, a 28-year-old former Sussex Police licensing officer, received an 18-month suspended sentence, 100 hours of unpaid work, and a 20-day rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing 421 indecent images of children, including 247 category A images.
Arrested in September 2024 following suspicious online activity, Joseph was suspended and resigned.
The case, which unfolded at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in December 2025 and was sentenced at Hove Crown Court on February 10, 2026, underscored a serious breach of trust by a former law enforcement employee.
