China warns U.S. that using Taiwan to challenge Beijing risks serious conflict, while criticizing Japan’s militarism.
China’s foreign minister Wang Yi warned the U.S. at the Munich Security Conference that attempts to use Taiwan to challenge Beijing could trigger serious confrontation, stressing that such actions would cross China’s red line.
He urged Washington to adopt a more pragmatic approach but said China is prepared to manage risks.
China maintains Taiwan is part of its territory and has not ruled out force for reunification.
The U.S. remains Taiwan’s top security partner.
Wang also criticized Japan’s leadership, warning that far-right and militaristic influences could lead to self-destruction and calling on peace-loving nations to urge Tokyo to uphold its commitment to peace.
