The central government has approved prosecuting IAS officer Arvind Kumar over ₹54 crore in unauthorized payments linked to Telangana’s Formula E races.
The central government has approved prosecution of IAS officer Arvind Kumar in connection with the Formula E case in Telangana, following a request from the state government.
The move comes after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) submitted its report, alleging unauthorized disbursement of ₹54 crore—including ₹8 crore in taxes—from the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority to Formula E Operations without cabinet or finance department approval.
Former BRS minister KT Rama Rao was named prime accused, and the case stems from a 2022 agreement that led to payments for races in 2023 and 2024, with the 2024 event canceled in January 2024 due to contractual issues.
The ACB investigation found financial irregularities during the previous BRS government, and the Governor had already approved prosecution of Rama Rao.
The Centre’s sanction now allows the ACB to file a chargesheet against Kumar, though no official announcement has been made.
