American speedskater Jordan Stolz won his second Olympic gold in Milan, claiming the men’s 500 meters in a record 33.77 seconds, becoming only the second skater ever to win both the 500 and 1,000 meters at a single Olympics.
He edged the Netherlands’ Jenning de Boo, who took silver, and Canada’s Laurent Dubreuil, who earned bronze.
Stolz, 21, now aims for more medals in the 1,500 meters and mass start.
In other events, Brazil’s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won South America’s first Winter Olympics gold in the giant slalom, Norway’s Maren Kirkeeide triumphed in the women’s biathlon sprint, and Norway upset Sweden in the women’s 4x7.5-kilometer cross-country relay after a binding failure caused a fall.
