U.S. figure skater Maxim Naumov delivered an emotional short program at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, dedicating his performance to his parents, former world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who died in the January 29, 2025, crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 near Washington, D.C. The plane, which collided with a military helicopter and plunged into the Potomac River, killed 67 people, including more than two dozen figure skaters and coaches. Naumov, who had recently spoken with his parents about his Olympic dreams, fulfilled their hopes in a poignant tribute to their legacy and unwavering support.
