The UK government is reviewing the eligibility criteria for the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) mobility and daily living components, with findings expected by autumn 2026.
Led by Minister Sir Stephen Timms and involving disabled groups and charities, the review aims to ensure PIP remains fair and effective.
No changes to eligibility will be made until after the review concludes.
The PIP supports over 3.9 million people across England and Wales, including 1.96 million receiving the higher-rate mobility component, which also grants access to the Motability Scheme and other benefits like the Blue Badge.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already announced reforms to the Motability Scheme, including ending VAT relief on top-up payments and applying Insurance Premium Tax to leases, though existing arrangements and wheelchair users will be unaffected.
