Toronto police arrested two Mississauga residents in a cross-border romance scam that stole $250,000 using fake dating profiles.
Toronto police have arrested two Mississauga residents, Charles and Patricia Azi, in connection with a cross-border romance scam that allegedly defrauded victims of $250,000.
Using fake profiles on dating apps, including the alias “Hronek Radko” and stolen photos, the suspects posed as a wealthy businessman and built emotional relationships with victims across Canada and the U.S. before requesting money for fake business ventures, emergencies, or shipping delays.
Funds were sent via wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or bank drafts, after which the scammers cut off contact.
The case is part of Project Mismatch, a broader investigation into organized online fraud.
Authorities warn the public to be cautious of rapid relationship progression, financial requests, and unverified online contacts, urging anyone with information to come forward.
