Starting Feb. 17, the Minnesota State Capitol will screen all visitors and staff at four public entrances for weapons, including firearms and explosives, as part of a new safety measure under Gov.
Tim Walz’s executive order.
The screenings, using metal detectors and X-ray machines, will occur at the south entrance and connecting tunnels, with elected officials exempt.
Visitors with concealed carry permits can enter if they show ID and permit.
The change follows a security review and aligns Minnesota with at least 37 other states using similar measures.
The Capitol remains open to the public, with accessibility accommodations and a 4:30 p.m. weekday closing time.
