Rep. Daniel Holt, a Democrat representing House District 28 in Honolulu, resigned from the Hawaii House of Representatives on February 13, 2026, after being appointed by Governor Josh Green as special assistant to the chair of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Holt, who served nearly a decade in the legislature since 2016, will begin his new role on February 17.
He cited a desire to continue public service in a different capacity, highlighting his work with youth, elders, and community organizations.
House Speaker Nadine Nakamura commended his leadership, particularly as co-chair of the Native Hawaiian Caucus and his efforts to support nonprofits through Act 310.
The Hawaii Democratic Party has 30 days to recommend candidates for Holt’s replacement, with Governor Green having 60 days to appoint a successor.
