Peter Murrell’s trial over £459K SNP fund theft delayed to May 2026 amid Holyrood election.
Peter Murrell, former SNP chief executive and ex-husband of Nicola Sturgeon, has had his preliminary hearing postponed from February 20 to May 25, 2026, due to the upcoming Holyrood election.
He faces charges of embezzling £459,000 in party funds from 2010 to 2023, allegedly using them for personal expenses including a motorhome, luxury cars, and high-end retail purchases, with prosecutors claiming he falsified documents to conceal the transactions.
The case stems from Operation Branchform, a probe into SNP finances launched in 2021.
Murrell was arrested in 2023 and charged in 2024, has not entered a plea, and was granted bail.
Sturgeon and former treasurer Colin Beattie were questioned but cleared.
The Crown Office confirmed the delay is procedural and not a case development.
