Nineteen-year-old Czech speed skater Metodej Jilek won gold in the men’s 10,000 meters at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, posting a time of 12:33.43 to claim the Czech Republic’s first speed skating title of the Games.
Competing in his Olympic debut, Jilek finished 5.65 seconds ahead of Poland’s Vladimir Semirunniy, who took silver, with the Netherlands’ Jorrit Bergsma earning bronze.
Jilek, who previously won bronze at the 2025 World Championships and silver in the 5,000m at these Games, overcame a pre-race illness and delivered a composed, dominant performance, lapping Canada’s Ted-Jan Bloemen.
His victory made him the second Czech Olympic champion in Milan Cortina and marked a breakthrough in his young career.
