Mumbai to create safety committees targeting fake IDs, encroachments, and foreign infiltration.
Maharashtra’s Mangal Prabhat Lodha has announced the creation of Public Safety Committees in Mumbai to address concerns over Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltration, citing threats to city security.
Operating at the Assembly constituency level, the committees will target fake Aadhaar and ration card issuance, assist in removing encroachments on government land, and support law enforcement.
Comprising officials from the Municipal Corporation, District Collector’s office, police, and NGOs, the initiative follows recent demolitions of illegal structures on about 15 acres of reclaimed land in the western suburbs, valued at over ₹1,000 crore.
The move aims to boost urban safety and accountability, with plans to expand statewide.
