Congress leader Jairam Ramesh praised former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as an "extraordinary institution builder," sharing a 1959 letter in which Nehru apologized to Supreme Court judge Vivian Bose for remarks made during a press conference.
Nehru expressed deep regret, calling the comments improper and acknowledging he should not have made them, citing being taken unawares and preoccupied.
He noted he had already responded to a critical resolution from the Calcutta Bar Library Club and enclosed his reply.
Ramesh used the letter to highlight Nehru’s respect for judicial independence.
Separately, Ramesh criticized the India-U.S. interim trade agreement, claiming India has conceded more than it gained and calling the government’s positive narrative "propaganda" that contradicts the U.S. perspective.
