AIIMS in New Delhi is preparing for India’s first face transplant, hosting a five-day training program from February 11 to 15 featuring cadaveric workshops and academic sessions led by Dr. Indranil Sinha of Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
The initiative, led by Dr. Maneesh Singhal, involves specialists from multiple disciplines and focuses on patient selection, ethics, and multidisciplinary care for individuals with severe facial trauma from acid burns, gunshot wounds, or accidents who have exhausted other treatments.
The hospital’s existing infrastructure in immunosuppression and complex surgery supports the effort, marking a major step toward advanced facial reconstruction in India.
