India has approved the purchase of 114 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force, marking the first time the aircraft will be manufactured outside France under a government-to-government agreement with full transparency.
The deal, valued at about Rs 3.60 lakh crore, includes 40 to 50 percent local content under India’s 'Make in India' initiative, enabling integration of Indian weapons and systems.
The first Rafale Marine jets are expected to arrive in 2028, with Air Force variants following within about three and a half years.
The acquisition also includes combat missiles and high-altitude pseudo-satellites for surveillance and communications, aiming to enhance India’s air dominance, deterrence, and long-range strike capabilities.
