Former Peoria High coach Daniel Ruffin released before trial on new sex abuse charges tied to student incidents.
Daniel Ruffin, former Peoria High School basketball coach, has been granted pretrial release in a second case involving alleged sexual misconduct with a teenage female student.
He faces aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges tied to multiple incidents, including some during school hours in his office, supported by explicit text messages from his phone.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney sought to keep him in custody, but Judge David Brown denied the request, citing no prior felony convictions and Ruffin’s termination from the school district.
Ruffin also faces separate charges of indecent solicitation and grooming from a prior case.
Conditions of release include electronic monitoring, home confinement, and no contact with victims.
His arraignment in both cases is set for March 12.
