A federal panel will review Trump’s 2026 plan to renovate the White House East Wing with a new ballroom, despite legal and environmental concerns.
A U.S. federal panel is set to review President Trump’s proposed $400 million White House East Wing renovation in March 2026, which includes a 90,000-square-foot neoclassical ballroom addition.
The project, which would demolish the 120-year-old East Wing, aims to address structural, energy, and accessibility issues, with the White House claiming it is privately funded and scheduled for a 2028 opening.
The National Capital Planning Commission and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts are expected to consider the plans, despite legal challenges over authority and environmental review.
Public comments are due by March 4, and oral testimony may be offered during a virtual meeting on March 5.
While the project has drawn scrutiny, no final decision has been made.
