Twelve-time All-Star Chris Paul, 40, has announced his retirement from the NBA after a 21-year career, sharing the news on Instagram.
The Toronto Raptors waived him on the same day following a trade deadline deal with the Clippers and Nets, primarily for financial reasons.
Paul, who played 16 games this season averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists, ranks second in NBA history in both assists (12,552) and steals (2,728).
A 2006 Rookie of the Year, four-time All-NBA First Team selection, and seven-time All-Defensive Team member, he won Olympic gold with Team USA in 2008 and 2012 and was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
He played for seven teams, never won an NBA championship, and reached the Finals once with the Suns in 2021.
