In November and December 2025, Canadian border officials at the Coutts port of entry seized over 1,000 kilograms of illegal drugs in three separate incidents, including cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and opium poppies, all originating from the United States and bound for Calgary.
Each driver was arrested and handed over to the RCMP.
The seizures, aided by detector dogs and advanced technology, were part of a broader effort by the CBSA in Alberta, which made 1,292 drug seizures in 2025.
CBSA District Director Ben Tame credited the success to trained personnel, risk assessments, and a recent $1.3 billion federal investment in border security, while emphasizing ongoing collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to combat cross-border trafficking.
