A billionaire businessman is continuing a defamation case against Scotland’s government over allegations of political bias in handling misconduct claims against the late First Minister Alex Salmond.
Paul McManus, a millionaire businessman and rock drummer, has taken over the legal case filed by the late Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond against the Scottish Government, following Salmond’s 2024 death.
The case accused senior officials, including Nicola Sturgeon and Leslie Evans, of mishandling misconduct complaints during Salmond’s tenure and was initially dismissed due to apparent bias, resulting in a £500,000 award to Salmond.
Though cleared of criminal charges, Salmond maintained he was the target of a political plot.
McManus, who did not know Salmond and disagrees with him on independence, is funding the case to ensure accountability and protect public trust, arguing that government overreach threatens ordinary citizens.
Legal efforts continue under Professor Peter Watson, with supporters seeking to uncover the truth and dispel allegations of systemic deceit.
The SNP and Scottish Government have declined to comment on ongoing litigation.
