UAE launches Ramadan campaign to combat child malnutrition, aiming to save 5 million children globally.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the "11.5: Edge of Life" Ramadan campaign on February 13, 2026, aiming to save 5 million children worldwide from hunger and malnutrition, with a broader goal of protecting 30 million more.
The initiative, backed by UNICEF, Save the Children, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and Action Against Hunger, focuses on children under five in conflict-affected, disaster-prone, and climate-vulnerable regions.
It uses the 11.5 cm mid-upper arm circumference as a key metric to identify severe malnutrition, a condition linked to nearly 2.6 million child deaths annually.
The campaign seeks to raise at least AED1 billion to fund urgent nutritional interventions and promote sustainable solutions, reflecting the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian leadership during Ramadan.
