Trump nominates Sheria Clarke, first Black woman for SC federal judgeship, to U.S. District Court.
President Donald Trump has nominated Sheria Clarke, a Greenville attorney and first Black woman he has selected for a federal judgeship in his second term, to serve on South Carolina’s U.S. District Court.
Clarke, a University of North Carolina law graduate and former federal prosecutor, previously held senior roles in the House of Representatives, including leadership positions on the Oversight and Ethics Committees, and worked on the Benghazi committee.
Trump praised her integrity and record, while Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham endorsed her nomination.
The nomination, announced on Truth Social on February 12, 2026, now heads to the Senate for confirmation.
