The Supreme Court is reviewing draft rules to create a system of licensed professional bail bondsmen for foreign nationals and non-citizens charged under the NDPS Act with commercial drug offenses.
The move follows the case of Chidiebere Kingsley Nawchara, who fled after being granted bail.
The court, led by Justices Sanjay Karol and A G Masih, tasked amicus curiae Sidharth Luthra with developing the proposal, which includes restrictions on who can serve as a bondsman and requires monitoring through government agencies.
The draft rules are now open for public and expert feedback.
