Stockholm’s electric hydrofoil ferry, the Candela P-12, has proven highly successful on Route 89, cutting travel time by nearly half, slashing CO₂ emissions by 94%, and boosting ridership by 22.5% with 95% passenger satisfaction. The quiet, efficient vessel requires minimal charging infrastructure and lower maintenance, enabling more frequent service and a 150% increase in capacity. A simulation showed replacing diesel ferries with six P-12s could yield SEK 119 million in socioeconomic benefits. The ferry is now in serial production, with deliveries starting in 2026 to cities including Mumbai, Berlin, and the Maldives.
