Retired NASA astronaut Suni Williams, 60, will run the 2026 Boston Marathon, having spent 286 days in space and set a record for women’s spacewalks.

Retired NASA astronaut Suni Williams, a Needham, Massachusetts native, will run the 2026 Boston Marathon on April 20, the Boston Athletic Association confirmed. Williams, 60, spent 286 days aboard the International Space Station after a planned one-week test flight in 2024 extended due to thruster issues on her spacecraft. She returned to Earth in March 2025, concluding a 27-year NASA career during which she accumulated 608 days in space and set a record for the most spacewalking time by a woman—62 hours across nine excursions. She previously ran the Boston Marathon unofficially at age 17 before joining the Navy.
