Europe’s Ariane 6 rocket successfully launched 32 Amazon satellites into orbit, marking its first mission with a new heavy-lift configuration.
Europe’s Ariane 6 rocket successfully launched its first mission with four solid-fuel boosters, carrying 32 satellites for Amazon’s Leo broadband constellation into low Earth orbit from French Guiana.
The flight, designated VA267, marked the debut of the Ariane 64 configuration, which doubled the rocket’s lift capacity to about 21.6 tonnes and set a new record for the heaviest payload ever carried by an Ariane rocket.
All satellites deployed as planned within 114 minutes, supporting Amazon’s effort to build a 3,200-satellite network to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink.
The mission, managed by Arianespace and backed by the European Space Agency, validates Europe’s growing heavy-lift capability and strengthens its independent access to space.
