Chennai police arrested 60-year-old Jeevan Singh in Pune after a year-long investigation into a series of Jain temple robberies across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka.
The suspect, who posed as a monk, was linked to thefts including a 600-gram gold bar and 10-kg silver crown from a Chennai temple in February 2025.
Authorities used over 200 CCTV recordings to trace his movements from Chennai to Nashik, where he fled disguised as a preacher.
Similar break-ins in Telangana, Salem, and Chengalpet confirmed his involvement.
Singh admitted to using stolen funds to buy land and build homes in Lonikand and claimed to have sold the stolen gold and silver to a Pune-based real estate businessman, Raj Bahu Rathore.
He has been remanded to Puzhal Central Prison.
